Golden Tilefish are found in the deep ocean trenches and along the continental shelf. They are solitary fish that excavate burrows in the soft bottom, ambushing prey that swims by. Their diet consists mainly of crabs, shrimp, sea urchins, and smaller fish. Due to the extreme depths required to target them, catching a Golden Tilefish is a true offshore expedition. We use specialized heavy-duty rods and reels, along with strong braided lines and large weights to get our baits down to their homes. The fight is often a steady, powerful pull as they try to use the bottom structure to their advantage.
